Andrea Caiti was born in Napoli, Italy, on May 18 1963. He received the "Laurea" degree (cum laude) in Electronic Engineering from the University of Genova in 1988. After working as staff scientist at the NATO SACLANT Undersea Research Centre (currently NURC), La Spezia, Italy, he joined DSEA in 1996 as assistant professor. He became associate professor at DII, University of Siena in 1998. In 2001 he came back to DSEA, where he is currently full professor, teaching Automatic Control, Industrial Automation (undergraduate students), System Identification, Underwater Systems (graduate students), Principles of Oceanography and Underwater Acoustics, Autonomous Systems for Oceanographic Exploration (Master students).

Since 2008 he is the coordinator of the Ph.D. Program in Automation, Robotics and Bioengineering at the University of Pisa.

From 2001 to 2008 he has been director of ISME, the Interuniversity Centre of Integrated Systems for the Marine Environment, with laboratory facilities at DSEA and at DIST, University of Genova.

He is Senior Member of IEEE, participating in the Control System and Oceanic Engineering Societies.

Research Interests

His research interests concern nonlinear system identification, parameter estimation, inverse problems, global optimization, with specific applications in the fields of robotics, process control, underwater acoustics and oceanic engineering.
